Meet Jose Jimenez

Who is Jose Jimenez?
Jose Jimenez grew up in the Northside of Houston, Texas. He learned at an early age the importance of hard work and dedication by spending most of his weekends helping his family at their record store, flea market stands, and tire shops. He attended Houston ISD’s Travis Elementary, Pershing Middle School and graduated from M.B. Lamar High School. Jose started playing the alto saxophone in 7th grade and played in his high school’s Jazz Band, Concert Band and was the Drum Major of his Marching Band. After graduation, he enrolled in the University of Houston, dropped out after his first semester, and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served Active Duty for four years while traveling throughout the United States on multiple temporary duty assignments. His final temporary duty assignment was at Prince Sultan Air Base in Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia, installing a remote air traffic control tower during Operation Southern Watch. After the Air Force, he returned to Houston and re-enrolled in the University of Houston and graduated Cum Laude. The Air Force taught him to go from college dropout to Cum Laude Graduate!

How is Jose involved with Galena Park ISD?
Jose Jimenez and his wife Janie moved their family to Galena Park ISD over 16 years ago to raise their children and be closer to their family. He walked his daughter to Havard Elementary, and after the Dual Language Program accepted both of their children, he drove them daily to Woodland Acres Elementary. After elementary, Jose continued to be involved in his children’s schools' Campus District Planning Committees, PTA’s, and wherever he could help. His children have also attended Woodland Acres Middle, Cobb Sixth Grade, North Shore Middle, and North Shore High School. Jose currently volunteers in the Galena Park Education Foundation, District Campus Planning and Advisory Committee, Scarlet Booster Club, and North Shore Marching Band.
Jose’s Vision for Galena Park ISD
Jose truly believes Galena Park ISD is a Great Place to Be and is proud of the A rating accomplished in 2021-2022, but we must not relax our efforts.
- We must continue to work together to increase the protection of the 21,400+ students that attend our schools.
- We must continue to expand our social services partnerships to improve the future of the parents of our 18,900+ economically disadvantaged children.
- We must find creative and culturally competent ways to educate our district’s 8,400+ emergent bilingual students (English Learners from various countries) to increase their dominance of the English Language.
- We must expand our support of our fine arts, STEM and youth sports programs into our elementary schools to give children a stronger sense of belonging at an earlier age.
- We must strengthen our collaboration with our local, state and federal elected officials to protect our taxpayer’s residences, businesses, and school campuses from flood risks.
- We must expand our local government partnerships to improve our student’s and parent’s accessibility to our campuses through safe multi-modal paths. Jose envisions one day safely walking or riding our bicycles from our Administration Building to ANY campus in our district.
